Perineal tearing

Second and third-degree perineal lacerations result to be present in 13.3% of
women who have applied TSB, with a 95% confidence interval from 7.5% to 21.4%,
less lacerations than 23.7% of the control group, with a 95% confidence
interval from 15.7% to 33.4%.*
(p-value=0.05)

In particular, there are no 3rd degree perineal tearing in the TSB sample.

*For this analysis, it was decided to exclude from the sample:
– cesarean deliveries: 2 women from the TSB sample and 7 from the control sample, since  the foetus does not come from the natural birth canal;
– 8 women from the TSB sample who could not adopt the TSB positions in the final part of the expulsion phase: 6 women who were forced by
obstetricians to adopt other positions, and in 2 cases the partners did not collaborate until the end of delivery.
